Brooks & Dunn
Hosting country music's prestigious CMA Awards three years in a row and also coming out on top as the overall winners might seem a little suspicious to some, but country duo Brooks & Dunn (Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn) assure their fans that it's all above board, and the pair have a plethora of previous chart-topping singles to back up their argument. Before the dynamic hillbilly boys were teamed up by heavyweight Arista Records dollar-signs-for-eyes representative Tim DuBois, they had both had successful singer-songwriting careers, with a few of their songs getting places in the country music charts. The first 12 months of their union proved to be fruitful, and by the end of 1991 the duo had the first of many number one singles, the somewhat aptly titled 'Brand New Man'. Their same-titled debut album was released later that year and has since sold more than six million copies and achieved more than 10 number one singles. 1998 saw the duo record and later tour with country music veteran, Reba McEntire. Their collaborative single, 'If You See Him/If You See Her', also reached number one. Their second album Tight Rope was less successful, but 2001 saw the big kings return with another hit single, 'Ain't Nothing 'Bout You'. More success was to come for the boot scootin' boys, with a well-timed PR move that came in the form of their song 'Only in America', which was released very shortly following the September 11 attacks. It achieved high rotation on most radio stations and a top spot on the US country music charts. The early 2000s saw more number one singles and a few albums under their cowboy belts. To date both Brooks and Dunn hold first and second place for the amount of overall awards won by a CMA artist.
