It wasn't long after Vanessa Amorosi's discovery in a Melbourne restaurant at the young age of 16 that the fiery vixen was labelled as Australia's answer to Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears. Yet despite the singer's rapid rise to fame, she has maintained an endearing frankness and a mature, down-to-earth attitude. It may have been her first single 'Have a Look', that introduced Amorosi's particular style of power pop to Australia, but it was following her second single 'Absolutely Everybody' released in 1999 that the artist really took Australia by storm. Reaching the top 10 in a few short weeks, the uplifting and empowering track remained in the ARIA top 50 for a further six months. It was followed shortly after by 'Shine' and 'The Power', from her album of the same name. Praised widely for its strength and maturity, this one album was enough to place Amorosi as the third most successful Australian female vocalist, after veterans Kylie Minogue and Tina Arena. Amorosi's success continued with her appearance in front of 4.5 billion people as part of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, where she featured in both opening and closing ceremonies singing another hit, 'Heroes Live Forever'. Amorosi released 'Kiss Your Mama' from Somewhere in the Real World in late 2007, which reached the top 20 in the Australian ARIA singles chart.
