Hailing from Brisbane, The John Steel Singers formed in 2005 when Scott Bromiley had just moved from Mackay to Brisbane and formed a partnership with Tim Morrissey. They were later joined by horn player Pete Bernoth, and recruited guitarist and vocalist Luke McDonald, bassist Pat McDermott and drummer Ross Chandler to the band.
The band's catchy blend of pop saw them become firm Triple J favourites, winning the coveted Unearthed J Award in 2008, as well as touring with the likes of The Polyphonic Spree, The Panics, Yves Klein Blue and Built To Spill.
The band released two EPs in 2008 - The Beagle & The Dove and In Colour (2008) - both receiving high rotations on Triple J. They have also won two consecutive Q Song Music Awards for Best Pop Song with 'Strawberry Wine' and 'Rainbow Kraut', which was also the most played track at Alternative Radio for two weeks when it was released.
The band's debut album was recorded with Robert Forster (The Go-Betweens) at Melbourne's Sing Sing studios, and mixed in New York with producer Nicholas Vernhes (Animal collective, Deerhunter).
