Neil Young
As a player, lyricist, and with his unmistakable falsetto tenor, Neil Young is one of music's most unique voices. As a member of influential acts Buffalo Springfield; Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young; and, most notably, as a solo artist, Young has produced an unparalleled body of work that crosses many genres. Over the years, he's been recognised as an influence by many new generations of musicians. His two most recognised styles are electric rock and folk, while his distinctive trashing style on the electric guitar has seen him labelled the 'godfather of grunge'. Born and raised in Canada, Young grew up listening to folk, country and rock'n'roll. Before scoring his big break, he played in several bands during and after his high school years and also performed solo. One of his early bands, the Mynah Birds, was fronted by Rick James. Young has experimented with many styles over the years including swing, jazz, blues and rockabilly. In the 1980s, his own record label Geffen sued him because they believed that his current output was 'unrepresentative' of Neil Young. He has also made albums with Pearl Jam, Booker T. and the MGs and formed a duo with Stephen Stills.
