Named after the Roxy Music song of the same name, Ladytron formed in Liverpool in 1998 after DJs Daniel Hunt and Reuben Wu met singer Mira Aroyo while travelling through Bulgaria. A second vocalist, Helena Marnie, completed the line-up.
After recording and releasing their 2000 debut EP, Commodore Rock, Ladytron released their debut album, 604, in the following year. Light & Magic, which featured the popular single 'Seventeen', arrived in 2002 alongside the mix album Softcore Jukebox. It was three years before the next album, Witching Hour, was released in 2005, which earned the band much critical acclaim, especially with its crowning single 'Destroy Everything You Touch'. Their most successful album to date however, was 2008's self-produced Velocifero, which was recorded in Paris.
Ladytron's sound can be described as synth-driven disco-pop in the vein of artists such as Gary Numan, Suicide, Kraftwerk and New Order. The group have an impressive touring resume, having supported the likes of Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Bjork and Soulwax. In addition to this, they have remixed tracks for Goldfrapp, Blondie, Placebo, Gang of Four, Bloc Party and She Wants Revenge.
