Kasey Chambers
Kasey Chambers grew up in the Australian outback and was ingrained with a steady diet of country music as her family traversed the country performing as the Dead Ringer Band. Kasey's parents and the band broke up in 1998, prompting her to write her own songs that comprised her debut solo album The Captain, released in 1999.
On the strength of the hugely successful single of the same name, the album attained double platinum sales in Australia and reached the top 50 in the US country charts, helped along by Chambers' tour of the US with Lucinda Williams and Emmylou Harris.
Follow-up album Barricades & Brickwalls was released in 2001 and built on Chambers' success, with blockbuster single 'Not Pretty Enough' helping it to the top of the Australian charts and winning Album of the Year, Best Female Artist and Best Country Album at the 2002 ARIA Awards. Wayward Angel, Chambers' third album was released in May 2004 and again topped the Australian charts and attained triple platinum sales status.
Midnight Oil's Jim Moginie and John Butler Trio drummer Michael Barker were recruited for the recording of 2006 album Carnival, Chambers' most musically diverse album, with more pop, rock and dance-oriented tracks. The album was her third in succession to reach number one in the Australian charts.
Towards the end of 2006 Chambers was pregnant with her second child and took time off from touring, getting her only musical fix playing at a local pub with band The Lost Dogs that she formed with father Bill and husband Shane Nicholson.
In early 2008 Chambers and husband Nicholson collaborated on the album Rattlin' Bones which debuted at number one upon its release in April 2008 and saw Chambers return to the stage.
